About the Position
The Senior Accountant is well-organized and a motivated team player with a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ability to apply GAAP to standards and moderately complex business transactions. This role supports financial decisioning by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data. Must possess the curiosity to analyze trends and investigate variances while fully understanding and adhering to internal procedures and external regulations. Ensure high-quality financial reporting by analyzing and properly recording source transactions and the preparing financial statements and related schedules. The Senior Accountant also collaborates with and supports internal teams, external auditors, vendors, and customers.
Responsibilities
Perform month-end accounting close processes and produce financial statements.
Ensure financial records are maintained and in compliance with GAAP.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations as assigned and ensure account balances are properly stated and supported by underlying transactions.
Resolve any reconciliation differences in a timely manner.
Collect and analyze revenue source data and then perform process to generate, audit, and deliver customer invoices.
Act as a liaison with other departments or subsidiaries to request information and ask questions to ensure proper accounting.
Quickly learns complex processes and procedures; and effectively prioritizes tasks to satisfy deadlines.
Review, validate, and reconcile sales tax and ensure reporting/payment deadlines are met.
Manage Avalara system to ensure proper alignment with required Sales and Use Tax and our NetSuite Accounting system.
Organize and manage critical files related to Sales and Use Tax project.
Take the initiative in thought leadership, innovation, and creativity
Represent the company at conferences and networking events
Adheres to all Meridian Cooperative corporate policies and procedures
Travel as required
Any additional responsibilities assigned by management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Accounting or Finance
5 plus years of applicable experience
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, with emphasis on Excel
Ability to quickly adapt and multi-task in a rapidly changing environment
Strong communication and follow-up skills
Experience with NetSuite is a plus
Experience with Sales & Use Tax and VDA filings a plus
