Minimum starting pay for this position is $114,000 annually or commensurate with experience.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the design and construction of complex electrical power systems and the analysis of the Cooperative’s protection systems in support of the Cooperative’s Strategic Initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Compile and evaluate design and test data
Operate computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks and analysis
Prepare technical specifications and analyze technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications
Prepare and study technical drawings, test reports and specifications of substation design and operation in order to conform to standards and customer requirements
Confer with engineers, customers and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and project management activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements
Design, implement, maintain and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products and systems for commercial, industrial and domestic purposes
Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications
Investigate customer or public complaints, determine nature and extent of problem and recommend remedial measures
Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget
Manage the design and construction of large substation projects with minimal supervision
Represent the Coop in regulatory compliance efforts as a Subject Matter Expert
Perform a variety of standard engineering computations and analysis
Prepare engineering drawings, maps, and construction specifications
Research material specifications and resolve basic material issues
Conduct construction inspections
Coordinate with consultants, members, developers and government entities on all projects
Provide guidance to other department engineers and staff
Write conceptual design documents for substation projects as assigned
Use sound engineering judgement to make decisions regarding changes to project scope
Assist with ordering major equipment and review approval drawings for long lead time material
Serve as a department and project leader
Perform fault studies and set relays for transformers, feeders and transmission lines
Complete assigned tasks

Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities
Serve in a lead capacity in the absence of the engineering manager
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs such as AutoCAD and ASPEN, entering data or processing information
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
Knowledge of Power System materials
Knowledge of NERC PRC standards
Proficient in all matters of substation design and construction
Proficient in reading and understanding schematics and design drawings
Skilled in time management
Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems
Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
Ten years of directly related work experience OR
Eight years of related work experience and a Post Graduate Engineering degree focused on a related engineering discipline.
