Job Summary:
We are looking for an Director of Communications and Public Affairs to work at our headquarter office in the City of Socorro, located in the middle Rio Grande Valley of beautiful Central New Mexico, with the weather is almost perfect year-round. This position is responsible for planning, developing, and administering a comprehensive communication, marketing department and the public affairs of the cooperative. Will assist with the management of public relations and communications efforts; to establish and maintain the image of Socorro Electric Cooperative both internally and externally. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, or sit.
Job Responsibilities
Below is a list of some of the job responsibilities this individual will perform:
Create and maintain favorable attitudes among various organizations, special interest groups, member/owners and the public through effective communications, education, and training.
Serve as an advocate of the electric cooperative program to blend in Tri State’s products and services rate shaping and energy demand response programs.
Represent the Cooperative in a professional manner while developing and implementing member programs and meeting to educate and inform the membership.
Assist the Board of Trustees, the CEO, CFO, staff members with responses to the attitudes and concerns of the many groups, organizations, individual members and political officials with which they may deal.
Encourage SEC membership to make the most beneficial use of electricity and to acquaint them with electrical safety practices.
Direct, develop and write media communications, news releases and PR campaigns.
Direct and develop youth and education programs as well as Youth Tour.
Direct and develop opportunities to promote electrical safety to youth, the membership and the general public.
Facilitate and speak to civic groups, community groups, schools, youth groups and other groups for educational purposes and to promote good will and a better understanding of Cooperative principles and activities between members, personnel and the general public.
Design and maintain SEC web site, upload board and member meeting videos to website.
Design and maintain SEC social media, daily and hourly, with current and up-to-date information.

Knowledge of public relations concepts and communications methods; Cooperative’s philosophy and objectives; must have a broad knowledge of public relations including knowledge of behavioral principles involved in dealing with consumers under stress.
Detailed knowledge and skills of cooperative communications and marketing, social media, and public relations.
Manage and attend SEC community events within SEC service area.
Manage and maintain monthly news letter.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Education
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent
Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
Minimum of Four (4) years of experience with cooperative Communications and Marketing
Preferred Education & Experience:
Equivalent Work Experience with a minimum of Three (3) Years experience in written and oral communications, experience dealing with electronic and print media
Developing and implementing public relations and event planning
Experience in public speaking and presentation
Substitution:
Combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
