As the safety specialist, some of the things you will be responsible for include:
Conducting safety inspections on mobile equipment, facilities, and job sites as prescribed by the safety program.
Leading the auditing of sites for compliance with safety regulations and Wolverine's safety program such as LOTO, Confined Space, and Emergency Plans.
Overseeing accident investigations and administration of corrective actions to ensure proper improvements are instituted.
Leading investigations on serious incidents.
Directing industrial hygiene monitoring and evaluations (noise surveys, air monitoring, personal exposure levels) as needed to maintain compliance.
Identifying and developing effective training programs through coordination with upper management, safety team members and employees.
Organizing training schedules, coordinating training events, and providing required safety training.
Identifying, establishing, designing, creating, and managing safety training resources - internal safety video creation, external training resources, web based, and on-line.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree in occupational or industrial health and safety or similar industry/technical related field. Equivalent on-the-job safety, loss control or risk management experience and safety professional certifications may be substituted for some formal education.
NRECA Loss Control Professional Certification or ability to obtain.
Previous experience as a safety professional or skilled tradesperson with a strong working knowledge of related safety regulations in the electric utility industry is preferred.
Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
A strong aptitude for developing new skills and researching information to expand knowledge.
Must have professional presentation and public speaking skills.
Ability to interpret, explain, and apply state and federal regulatory safety rules.
Thorough understanding of National Electric Safety Codes, NFPA, ANSI, MIOSHA & OSHA Rules and Regulations in application to the electric utility industry.
Maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.
Frequent travel to plants, service centers, and field work sites in relation to job duties.
