We are seeking a highly skilled technician to join our Telecommunications Team! This role will assist with the configuration, installation, operation, and maintenance of the Cooperative's digital mobile radio equipment, Network Terminal Units (NTU), standby power systems, and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. SCADA is a critical system that monitors and controls field devices at remote sites by collecting and processing real-time data.
East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a service area that covers 40,000 square miles. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. This job opportunity is located at our main campus in Madison, South Dakota. Assist in project planning and telecommunications systems engineering.
Configure, install, modify, and maintain various telecommunications system equipment such as field area network radios, MAS radios, routers, switches, antenna systems, and standby power systems.
Provide support for the installation and maintenance of the microwave radio, MPLS and fiber optic system as necessary.
Provide installation of DMR radio equipment into member system vehicles and offices as required.
Aid in assessing the impact of failed equipment and provide maintenance to ensure system restoration.
Maintain system analysis and maintenance records along with related documentation including database management; provide reports as required.
Assist in the evaluation of system equipment, upgrades, and/or additions.
Be available to provide assistance and troubleshoot issues in emergency situations.
Minimum requirements include:
Associate degree in electronics, digital communications, SCADA, or a closely related field.
A combination of technical training and at least five years' experience in electronics maintenance may be considered.
Ability to work with others in a team-oriented atmosphere, demonstrate a professional presence, show a commitment to job performance, and pay close attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships.
Ability to gain and apply technical knowledge and troubleshoot operational issues.
Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products and computer technology.
Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a DOT medical certification.
Must live within 35 miles of Madison and meet a 40-minute response time for emergency call-in.
