An Electric Utility Safety Specialist develops and provides safety training, job training, educational programs, and other safety-related services to member cooperatives and the statewide cooperative. In this position, you will be given the opportunity to work alongside peers who are versatile, enthusiastic, and continuing to strive to push AECC and our mission forward.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct safety information and training meetings at member cooperatives and, on occasion, statewide generation and transmission cooperatives. Develop training material based on technical bulletins, regulatory information, and trade notices. Establishes atmosphere conducive to an effective meeting.
Develops and organizes technical courses and line worker apprenticeship and refresher training courses. Participates in electric utility-related organizations, seminars, workshops, and conferences to obtain information regarding new technology and methods.
Advises member cooperatives on industrial hygiene monitoring and with the development of corrective measures to control identified health hazards.
Performs hazard identification and risk assessments and recommends appropriate engineering and/or administrative/procedural controls.
Leads, or participates in, incident investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations, as assigned.
Assists Safety Coordinators with various field activities to include; inspection of various generation and transmission facilities, inspection and testing of equipment and evaluation of the application of NFPA and NESC codes, OSHA regulations and other consensus standards. Additionally, participates in incident investigations, and audits across the organization as necessary.
Participate in mutual aid and disaster relief activities, as necessary.
The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
EUSS I
Technical Certificate in High Voltage Line Worker Technology, or other related field from an accredited institution plus 5 years related experience, or 8 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPR Instructor (Obtain within 1 year)
Arkansas driver's license with Class A CDL endorsement (Obtain within 1 year)
Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program Trainer Designation, OSHA 500 or 501 (Obtain within 3 years)
Line worker certification (NLC, SLTC or equivalent), Certified Loss Control Professional, or approved BCSP Credential. (Obtain within 3 years)
EUSS II
Technical Certificate in High Voltage Line Worker Technology, or other related field from an accredited institution plus 7 years related experience, or 10 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPR Instructor.
Arkansas driver's license with Class A CDL endorsement.
Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program Trainer Designation, OSHA 500 or 501.
Line worker certification (NLC, SLTC or equivalent), Certified Loss Control Professional, or approved BCSP Credential. (Obtain within 3 years)
Senior EUSS
Associate degree in High Voltage Line Worker Technology, Safety Management, or other related field plus 6 years related experience and/or training, or 12 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPR Instructor.
Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program Trainer Designation, OSHA 500 and 501.
Arkansas driver's license with Class A CDL endorsement.
Line worker certification, NLC, SLTC or equivalent, Certified Loss Control Professional, or approved BCSP Credential.
CSP, CUSP, or equivalent certification.
Certified Instructional Trainer Credential.
Approved technical trainer credential related to electric power generation, transmission, distribution, and/or construction. (i.e. Crane Operator Trainer)
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPR Instructor (Obtain within 1 year)
Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program Trainer Designation. (obtain within 1 year).
Certified Loss Control Professional - CLCP (obtain within 3 years)
Arkansas driver's license with Class A CDL endorsement within 1 year.
This position shall obtain the level of training and/or credentials that are required to be recognized as competent to provide training on a particular subject.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Journeyman Lineman Certification or Journeyman Substation Technician Certification.
