A Civil and Structural Design Engineer provides the initiative, technical ability, and responsibility required to give AECC well-designed substation facilities. We’re looking for someone who can maintain a high degree of situational awareness to meet continually changing conditions with a fresh and adaptable approach. Responsibilities
Provide civil and structural engineering for the Engineering Department projects related to production and transmission facilities including grading, drainage, foundation and structural steel design.
Performs engineering design for AECC's standard substation and transmission line facilities for the delivery of bulk power.
Develops material lists for structural steel, anchor bolts, rebar, connectors and any other equipment or hardware as required for substation and transmission line projects.
Orders and schedules geotechnical tests such as soil borings and compaction tests and analyzes results for conformity to AECC's specifications.
Ensures AECC substation and transmission line facilities are designed to provide a reliable, economical, quality and maintainable electric system.
Reviews as built drawings and participates in the department record update process.
Examines AECC's compliance with appropriate standards organizations regarding manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly of structural components and construction requirements of civil work.
Prepares budget items, work orders, requests for quotations, evaluations and purchase orders.
Advises other staff members, power plant superintendents, AECI personnel and member cooperatives' personnel upon request of facts relating to this area of responsibility and assists them in the performance of their duties in times of need as directed by the Supervisor. Solicits assistance of other staff members to perform all work within their capability.
Keeps abreast of related current scientific developments and represents AECC on various EPRI, CRN, and NRECA committees, working groups and advisory councils as required.
The ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited University, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of design principles related to substation and transmission line structures and their foundations.
Knowledge of design principles related to proper grading and drainage of substation and transmission line facilities.
Ability to interpret geotechnical survey reports and apply to an engineering design.
Knowledge of electric power systems and RUS substation and transmission line designs.
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and PLS-CAD software
Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arkansas; Engineering Intern (E.I.) license in the State of Arkansas
