Purpose of Job:
The Portfolio Manager will be located in the Glen Allen, VA home office. This individual manages the origination of structured power supply transactions and acquisition opportunities in addition to managing power supply costs and risks through the execution of power supply contracts and development of power supply portfolio hedging and procurement recommendations. This position supervises 3 full-time exempt employees and assists in power supply planning functions and supports regulatory efforts.
Essential responsibilities include:
Manage the origination of structured power supply transactions and generation acquisition opportunities
Manage mid-marketing function for power, fuel, emission allowances, and renewable energy certificates (RECs).
Develop or coordinate power supply hedging and procurement recommendations and bidding strategies for energy, congestion/basis, capacity, fuel, emission allowances, natural gas, and RECs.
Supervises activities and provides direction to 3 full-time exempt employees.
Manage the development of medium-term power supply portfolio model and design and production of reports generated by ACES.
Develop and manage ODEC’s energy budget and hedging policy. Support the preparation and review of financial and regulatory filings (e.g., 10K, FERC 1).
Responsible for the production of the intra-month profit and loss (P&L) report.
Work Experience:
Minimum 5 years utility industry experience required
Minimum 3 years utility origination or trading experience required
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective people leadership skills
Effective written and oral communications skills to all levels of the organization and external groups
Understanding of power supply portfolio cost and risk including statistical and economic theory, power plant characteristics and fuel supply and delivery characteristics
Must have working knowledge of regional wholesale power and fuel markets
Advanced level Microsoft Excel proficiency
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Power industry experience preferred
Experience with hedging congestion, planning and regulatory activities preferred
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or other technical field required
Travel details: Occasional day and overnight travel (10% annually) via automobile or commercial airline
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor the majority of the day to include working on a laptop and smartphone
Interact effectively with others through verbal communication in person, over the phone and via video chat as well as in writing via email, Teams chat and text
Work full days (8 hours) in an office environment with occasional evening and weekend work
Conduct occasional travel via automobile to member cooperative sites which may entail some overnight travel and commercial airline for occasional conferences/meetings.
