Provides engineering expertise and technical support for capital projects and operations for the Seminole’s transmission system. Supports emergency transmission and substation events, final acceptance of new infrastructures installed on the transmission system, capacity needs/system stability analysis for other departments, and inspection & maintenance plan development and implementation. Manages projects and coordinates the design, engineering, modeling, construction and maintenance support of major electric utility transmission facilities, Develops documentation for transmission facility compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards. Performs complex transmission and/or substation electrical utility system inspection, analysis, design, and other design assignments requiring demonstrated proficiency of engineering principles, ethical behavior and the exercise of sound professional judgment.
Essential Functions
Provides technical guidance and support to transmission/substation team members in their design, engineering, construction, maintenance, and testing responsibilities.
Coordinates activities in the following areas: project definition, route selection, engineering, equipment specifications and design, permitting, and construction oversight.
Develops request for proposals and bid packages for large transmission projects. Solicits bid documents, evaluates proposals and support vendor selection. Act as a Project Manager for assigned projects. Interprets contract requirements for engineering and construction services or equipment supply
Prepares engineering progress reports including design, construction, manufacturing, and consulting activities associated with assigned projects. Performs transmission infrastructure field inspections and assessments
As required, prepares and presents expert testimony in hearings and litigation involving right-of-way acquisition and NERC Reliability Standards compliance audits.
Prepares and updates system documentation including transmission/substation drawings/diagrams, equipment documentation and data, operating manuals, practices, and procedures.
Designs and specifies transmission materials, equipment, monitoring and recording equipment, oversees transmission installation and maintenance activities.
Other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in electrical/civil/structural engineering or equivalent mechanical/electrical training from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum is required.
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering design is required in addition to the educational requirement. Experience must include demonstrated proficiency in the development of transmission construction specifications, design standards, material specifications, , and the analysis of complex engineering problems. Extensive working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position. Licensure/registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is beneficial.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to follow established protective measures including, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report. Must be able to lift and carry over 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
This position interacts with all SECI departments, A/E firms, maintenance and construction contractors, material and equipment suppliers, manufacturer’s representatives, other utilities, permitting agencies, public interest groups and professional organizations, as well as the general public. Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. On-site inspection duties involving occasional overnight travel within the service territory may be required. May be temporarily assigned to construction site locations. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.
