On a day-to-day basis, this position allows you to maintain and repair remote terminal units, transducers, and other system protection equipment including electro-mechanical and electronic relays, protective controls, and switchboards. High school diploma
Apprentice level requires Associate degree in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics field or two years of system protection experience directly related to the installation and maintenance of electro-mechanical and electronic relays and control equipment utilized by electric utilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
Journey level requires four years’ experience as a relay technician with system protection experience directly related to the installation and maintenance of electro-mechanical and electronic relays and control equipment utilized by electric utilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics field is preferred.

The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here: https://secure.eei.org/eeitests/onlineproducts/Login.aspx .
