North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation (NCEMC), a Raleigh-based electric utility company, has an opening for an Associate Accountant. The role of the Associate Accountant is to process accounts payable and assist in the preparation of journal entries and monthly reconciliations.
Academic and Trade Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred and equivalent experience is required.
Work Experience:
Two to three years of general accounting experience. A/P experience is required. Working with Transform AP, Oracle JD Edwards, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Perform all duties associated with Accounts Payable for TEMA, including 3-way match, to ensure prompt and accurate payments.
Process telephone invoices for payment in a timely manner.
Assist in the preparation of journal entries and monthly reconciliation of NCEMC, NCAEC, and TEMA general ledger accounts, as assigned.
Perform daily cash flow analysis to ensure appropriate cash is on hand to process payments.
Assist in the preparation of annual 1099 reports.
Assist in the preparation of miscellaneous analyses, as assigned.
Provide information for auditors and tax accountants, as requested.
Perform backup functions for NCEMC and NCAEC Accounts Payable and all related duties.
Perform other duties, as required.
Job Knowledge:
Must possess effective working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and common accounting procedures.
Abilities and Skills:
Must demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve basic accounting problems. Must possess the ability to proficiently use automated accounting and office systems. Must be organized and able to consistently meet deadlines. Effective social and critical thinking skills are necessary. Results-oriented and motivated with a sense of personal accountability.

Reports to: Accounting Manager
Directs: None
Internal Relationships: Responsible for maintaining internal relationships necessary to achieve the purpose of the position and the desired results.
External Relationships: Responsible for maintaining external contacts to achieve desired results.
Working Conditions:
Normal office conditions with occasional travel required. Overtime during month-end close may be expected. Planning of schedules will be expected throughout the year for certain tasks.
