POSITION PURPOSE:The Director of Planning leads, directs and is accountable for all distribution system planning functions at Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC). The Director of Planning is a strategic partner to both the CEO and management team for the effective management and technical skills needed for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining safe, reliable power at the lowest-possible cost for the 83,000 members served by the Cooperative.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Consistently demonstrates a behavioral leadership pattern that supports and models DREMC’s 11 Essential Attributes.
Consistently model the Leadership Principles of Leadership Landmines, 8 Management Catastrophes and How to Avoid Them.
Provides an environment of consistent personal growth and development for all members of the Planning department.
Represent DREMC’s interests with industry organizations including but not limited to: TVPPA, TECA, NRECA and TVA.
Develops, communicates, monitors and reports on work plans that improve safety and reliability of the DREMC distribution system at the lowest possible cost.
Modifies annual work plans within the fiscal year as needed based on emerging real time factors including but not limited to labor shortages, contractor availability, supply chain disruptions, weather conditions and new opportunities as they arise.
Coordinates work with DREMC engineering consultants as applicable.
Benchmarks DREMC procedures and trends against the industry and nearby utilities to better understand and communicate possible areas of additional growth for the department and DREMC to best serve the membership.
Works to proactively identify and resolve business challenges with other DREMC departments in a manner that improves safety, reliability, or lowest-possible cost for delivered power while contributing towards a culture of creativity and fun.
Prioritizes needed capital improvement projects in a strategic manner that ensures dollars invested are in the right location, right time, and right order to avoid stranded assets while supporting a growing distribution system that requires many new projects in the coming years.
Provides strategic insights that benefit other DREMC departments.
Supports proactive maintenance of the DREMC distribution system in partnership with the line inspection program, right of way, and other related functions that regularly make strategic investments in a $250,000,000 distribution system.
Manages accurate modeling and mapping of the DREMC distribution system for Planning and other DREMC departments.
Education — Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred. Relevant industry experience, certifications and relevant training may also be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
Experience —Five (5) years of relevant industry experience is preferred. Working knowledge of government regulations affecting electric utilities is required. Experience with MilSoft, WindMil, Autocad, ESRI, SEL relays, GIS and SCADA is preferred.
Certification/License, etc. —Valid Tennessee Driver’s License or ability to obtain license prior to first day of employment is required. Must be eligible to remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Working knowledge of an electric distribution utility industry in the TVA footprint is required. The Director of Planning must consistently display a strong subset of the essential attributes for success at DREMC. They must display a strong degree of adaptability and innovation, while consistently demonstrating a professional humility and hunger that inspires positive energy to and from others.
