Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (KEPCo) is seeking qualified candidates to fill an open position on the Engineering Team. This position will be filled as an Engineer I, II, or III depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Primary Accountabilities:
The primary objectives of this open Engineer position are to provide engineering and technical support for:
The operation and maintenance of KEPCo-owned generations resources
The installation and maintenance of KEPCo metering and communication equipment
The resolution of technical issues with KEPCo transmission and power suppliers regarding the safe, efficient, reliable delivery of power to KEPCo Member Cooperatives
Compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, and laws
KEPCo Member Cooperatives regarding transmission and distribution operation and maintenance, metering, power quality, communication and control equipment, and commercial and industrial consumer concerns
KSI by preparing and communicating the results of engineering and economic studies related to the planning and development of distribution and transmission facilities for KEPCo member cooperatives and non-members
KSI by conducting and communicating the results of work order inspections, distribution and transmission staking, and other engineering field activities
KSI by assisting with the development of business plans, budgets, marketing, project planning and scheduling, project accounting, and other tasks related to managing this consulting engineering business
KEPCo, headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative. It is KEPCo’s responsibility to procure an adequate and reliable power supply for its 16 distribution rural electric cooperative members at a reasonable cost.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university program. The Engineer I position requires zero to six months of work experience. The Engineer II position requires a minimum of two (2) years of work experience. The Engineer III position requires a minimum of five (5) years of work experience. To qualify, work experience must be in the electric utility industry with an emphasis on utility design, engineering, and operational activities. The Engineer III position requires a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in the State of Kansas or the ability to obtain one within 1 year. The Engineer I and II positions give preference to a candidate with Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status on track to obtain a P.E. license in not more than 4 years. A Kansas driver’s license is required.

Has at least an introductory understanding of the National Electric Safety Code, as well as industry standards applicable to electric utility systems, equipment, and operations
Is computer literate and able to operate business and engineering software
Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
