Position Summary: Support and assist the Communications & Controls Engineering section with design and planning of required telecommunication and control system facilities. Perform independent design and system studies on specific projects. May give direction to drafters, clerical personnel, and Engineering Assistants and assume such authority as may be delegated. Perform other duties as required.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Design Prepare and analyze engineering drawings, specifications and system data to determine design factors on specific projects requiring communications related equipment including but not limited to:
Digital microwave radio systems, VOIP telephone systems, Mobile radio systems, Fiber optic communications equipment,
Digital multiplexing circuit equipment, IP based networking infrastructure, Landline telephony circuits, SCADA remote terminal units, Intelligent electronic devices (IED) and support equipment, Security systems, ,Video systems, General electronic miscellaneous systems.
Design and plan system facilities for projects in accordance with applicable codes and regulation. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, maintain safety awareness, and promote all aspects of BEPC’s safety program in a compliance culture that promotes continuous improvement and proactive measures.
Planning and Analysis Become multi-disciplined with knowledge of existing and future technologies. Plan and develop enhancements to specific network management systems. Perform detailed engineering studies and reports within degree discipline. Assist in project management by performing detailed engineering and economic studies, reviewing of contract specifications and estimating labor, materials, and construction costs of projects
Support Diagnose and troubleshoot active systems to support operational modifications, repairs, or enhancements. Provide technical support to others within and outside the Engineering Department. Maintain relationships with external contractors, consultants and member cooperative personnel to coordinate job related activity. Perform field related investigations, inspections, or monitoring. Perform special communications related assignments as required. Work closely with communications technicians on completion of design installations and testing.
Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering with a communications, electronics and/or network discipline. Previous technical work related history will be evaluated.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: The position requires working inside in a controlled environment and occasionally outside in varying weather conditions. Sitting for extended periods of time. Working overtime and traveling at times with short notice. Hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
