South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an individual to fill the position of Fiber Construction Inspector. This position will report out of our Barnesville, OH location.
This position will support the fiber network plant buildout, maintenance activities and integration of field construction activities to ensure needs and goals are met on time, within budget and meet quality standards. The successful candidate will direct and coordinate contracted services and material needs, provide progress updates and drive project efforts.
Responsibilities include routinely inspecting area work practices, facilities, and equipment for quality and safety compliance. The position will monitor and provide status updates, inspection reports and provide project-related feedback to the Manager of Fiber Construction. Some of the specific duties include:
Designing and staking operations (rights-of-way, draw staking sheets, cost estimates and billing) as necessary for new and custom work.
Providing on-site direction with Fiber placement, splicing and underground contract vendors.
Interacting with electric line operations team to develop internal fiber construction/restoration knowledge.
Collaborating with the Manager of Fiber Construction to manage and coordinate Outside Plant (OSP) material needs.
Delivers quality assurance and inspection processes.
Coordinating with field crews on Daily Production Report (DPR) and Construction reporting process.

What the job requires…
High school diploma or equivalence certificate in addition to proficiency with communication or electric distribution line work and utility project management, typically attained through an associate degree in a related field experience and/or four or more years of communication/line construction and two or more years of utility project management experience. Experience and involvement in managing electric and/or fiber construction projects.
Position requires an understanding of fiber construction process and electric system construction concepts. Proficient with utility engineering and construction practices including RUS specifications and federal/state construction standards, electric distribution system operations and procedures. Skilled with position specific software and hardware: Microsoft Project, Smartsheet or Primavera P6. Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio and competent with general office equipment
Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to interact with subscribers and other cooperative staff effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record.
