Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative (JPEC) is seeking a Field Engineer to join our team. Ideal candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate the design of outside plant facilities required for the efficient operation of the electric system.
A Field Engineer will work under close supervision while performing the following duties and responsibilities:
Contacts and meets with consumer-members and/or their representatives to determine needs and answers questions regarding requirements for ditching, poles, metering, etc. Surveys and stakes new line routes or upgrades to existing infrastructure, and accurately prepares staking sheets. Obtains the necessary permissions for right-of-way, tree trimming, yard access, etc. Completes permits and necessary attachments (e.g., right-of-way easements, highway permits, equipment data sheets, tree trimming permissions, joint-use utility notifications, estimates, BUD forms, etc.). Performs necessary calculations to ensure proper transformer, pole, guying, and wire sizes. Performs necessary calculations to ensure accurate cost estimates are provided to consumer-members (internal and external) when necessary. Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of electric distribution systems. Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of the National Electric Safety code, JPEC tariffs, JPEC Policies and Procedures, and applicable Kentucky Public Service Commission rules and regulations. Ensures that vehicle and equipment assigned are properly used and kept in good working condition and promptly reports any repair needs. Must be able to work non-standard hours and/or extended hours beyond normal shift and during emergencies (e.g., evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.) in all weather conditions.
Approximately 40 – 50% of work is performed outdoors. Ability to walk for extended periods of time, regularly lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally over 50 pounds. Required to grip, grasp, feel, or twist using the hands, fingers, and/or wrists regularly. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Operates a computer keyboard and mouse daily. Must live within a 30-mile radius of JPEC headquarters, have a valid driver’s license, maintain good attendance/punctuality record, travel, and participate in designated training programs when necessary.
