POSITION PURPOSE

To provide reliable testing, calibration, and maintenance of all types of meters and metering equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Tests, services, maintains, and calibrates all meters, instruments, transformers, and metering equipment
  1. Tests all meters by ANSI and CW REMC standards using computer driven calibration equipment.
  2. Thoroughly cleans and repairs meters as needed.
  3. Accurately programs all Carroll White REMC meters.
  4. Ensures all meters are properly sealed after testing.
  5. Accurately documents information on all tested and. repaired meters.
  6. Updates and looks up meter related information on the NISC system as needed.
  7. Edits meter programming software as instructed.
  8. Installs and repairs instrument metering equipment.
  9. Installs wiring for CT and PT metering in accordance with directions.
  10. Sets and maintains single-phase and three-phase metering above 200 Amps.
  11. Accurately wires sockets for single-phase and three-phase company mounted meters.
  12. Effectively repairs any damaged meter bases.
  13. Performs meter change outs according to company procedures.
  14. Assembles, installs, and maintains primary metering equipment.
  15. Performs field testing of metering installations.
• Meets with members and works with them to help them understand energy usage, assists in identifying member side issues, and may provide recommendations or refer them to qualified personnel.
• Assists with power theft cases as needed.
• Acts as lead person for the Meter Department.
  1. Assists the supervisor in training and instructing Meter Technician I.
  2. Delegates workflow in the absence of the supervisor.
  3. Provides assistance to the Meter Technicians as deemed necessary.
  4. Makes decisions within established guidelines, in the absence of supervisor.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office products related to this position and applicable processing programs utilized by the REMC.
  • Must be able to fully utilize an iPad and Apps supplied by the REMC.
• Must be able to deal discreetly with confidential information.
• Ability to apply craft techniques, processes and principles associated with this position.
• Must participate in and be certified in Annual CPR & Periodic First Aid Training.
• Must possess a Valid Indiana Driver’s License

Outside:

• Has a working knowledge of the use of protective equipment.
• Must participate in and be certified in operating a Forklift.

Job Specific:

• Has a working knowledge of the hazards that exist in the form of falls, electric shock, electric flash, falling objects, and traffic.
• Demonstrated ability   in   the   effective   application, installation, testing and calibration of all types of watt-hour meters and instrument transformers.
• Good working knowledge of all types of electrical meters and electrical recording instruments.
• Knowledge of all local, state, and national codes and regulations regarding instrument metering.
• Previous work experience in the utility industry is preferred.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience.

• High School Graduate or equivalent and Vocational/Technical school diploma or equivalent education in electronics or related field.
• Minimum of two years as a Meter Technician I or equivalent work experience.

                         Or:

• Six years’ experience as a Meter Technician I or equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of post high school education.
