Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering:
Implementing and operating electronic Automation Mapping systems and Facilities Management and Geographic Information System.
Distribution System Sectionalizing Studies
Distribution System Breaker, Recloser and Fusing coordination.
Capacitor sizing and placement.
Voltage drop calculations.
Motor starting calculations for commercial and industrial loads.
Other Control Responsibilities:
Reviews and Analyzes:
Engineering Substation Data
System Reliability
System load balance (Ampere readings)
System operating voltage fluctuations (regulators)
Service transformer loading analysis
System losses
Substation LTC & regulator settings
Relationships:
Internal:
Vice President, Engineering: To obtain instructions, approvals if required, guidance, and advice.
Vice President Operations and Field Superintendents: To obtain the field data and information for operational needs.
Vice President, Corporate Services, and Warehouse & Purchasing Manager: To obtain data and information for cost control and planning.
Senior Management: To obtain the information and data affecting their departments.
Engineering Service Representative: To obtain information and data for engineering studies.
Staking Engineers: To work closely and assist with line extensions, system changes, transformer load sizing and construction estimates.
External:
Members: To provide efficient service and assist with any technical problems concerning engineering designs and service rules and regulations.
General public: To maintain a good relationship with public.
Consulting Engineer: To seek assistance, give and receive information.
Louisiana Generating: To confer and assist in engineering matters as requested.
Louisiana Association of Cooperative Engineers and ALEC: To attend meetings and other educational activities, which will aid in improving technical skills.
Product sales representatives: To obtain information on equipment and material to be purchased.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Minimum of 2 years experience in electric power systems analysis or related engineering internship or co-op experience or equivalent work experience in a technical position.
Must have a sound knowledge of college mathematics, physics and electricity.
Must have a sound knowledge of the principles of electric system components.
Sharp analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills required.
Must be able to assist in planning, organizing, and implementing the goals of the department in coordination with the Vice President, Engineering.
Effective oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills.
Proficient computer skills – including both hardware management and software familiarity; including Microsoft Office and Project Suites – Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Must be able to assist in performing power system engineering studies, analyses, and calculations.
Position requires working both inside and outside, traveling both within and outside the service area and some irregular hours.
Must maintain a valid State issued driver’s license.
Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen along with pre-employment extensive background screening.
Must be able to apply extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in power systems engineering to resolve complex problems.
Be flexible and timely in responding to VP of Engineering as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate needs and requirements of BECi.
Willing to oversee and facilitate in a wide variety of special projects and special reports as assigned
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, and work procedures of BECi as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions requires physical activities but are not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, finger use, grasping, and hearing, and seeing.
Must be able to exert up to fifty (50) pounds, in the amount of force needed to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stoop, bend, and climb stairs and ladders as required to perform assigned job function.
Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity for operating computer and other office equipment.
