INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN, JOURNEYMAN (ALMA, WI)
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the daily activities associated with the Maintenance Department (Instrument Group).
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This list is developed to demonstrate the level of duties normally performed by this classification and to develop a related wage rate. This list is not an all encompassing list of duties.
1. Assist department foreperson in implementing a safety program within the department that complies with all established safe work practices (pre-job and post-job)
2. Trouble shoot, repair, and maintain:
Station HVAC and control
Tune station and auxiliary combustion control systems
Makeup, wastewater, feedwater, and condensate system controls
Calibrate all transducers measuring pressure, temperature flow, and level
Calibrate turbine/generator controls and supervisory systems
Calibrate electric and pneumatic controls, operators and positioners
Air pollution emission monitoring equipment and complete all required reports and maintain all required files
Plant data acquisition system
Environmental, including active carbon injection system, dry sorbent injection system and selective catalytic reduction system
3. Install cable and conduit on a limited basis
4. Safely work on equipment with steam pressures of 6000 PSI and 1000?F
5. Complete instrument equipment records related to tests, modifications, repairs and preventative maintenance. Complete necessary documentation for prints and drawings
6. Be familiar with equipment vendor information files, reports, instrument maintenance procedures and other written materials assigned
7. Maintain a high degree of proficiency by attending training programs offered. Assist in the training of instrument trainees
8. Maintain electrical and pneumatic test and safety equipment in proper operating order
9. Maintain clean, orderly and hazard-free work areas
10. Prepare instrument maintenance procedures
11. Protect Cooperative property
12. Other duties historically performed by this classification and other related or comparable duties as assigned
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: (Internal Candidates) – Must have completed a state-approved instrument apprenticeship program OR possess comparable education and work experience;
(External Candidates) – Associate degree in Instrumentation or a directly related field required plus three years related experience.
Skills: Must be knowledgeable and able to perform duties of technicians and trainees. Must become knowledgeable in the budget process, station cost center breakdown, accounting system, and the account numbers. Personnel, accounting, safety and CMMS training to be completed at the first opportunity after promotion date. Computer literacy required. Willingness to learn is required. Computer trouble shooting of plant computer control system.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands: Sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, lift (up to 45 lbs. and 75 lbs. occasionally), push/pull, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand, bend, and reach/stretch. Operate overhead cranes, hijacker, stack elevator, pickup, end-loader, and telephone. Manipulate test equipment, maintenance tools and equipment, ladders, cable, and wire. Ability to be respirator certified.
Environmental Demands: Work indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, and frequently in extreme noise. Frequently work around mechanical, electrical hazards, and occasionally work around fume/odor, dust, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and exposure to ionization radiation. Frequently work at heights.
Other Job Characteristics: Off-duty availability, emergency call-in. Frequently interact with contractors, sales people, and co-workers. Limited supervision. Team-oriented and independent worker, having routine and variable tasks. Variably paced. Work overtime as required.
Must reside/relocate primary permanent residence to within a 35 air miles distance of the JPM power plant. Relocation must occur no later than the end of the transfer OR initial introductory period. Failure to comply with the requirement will result in being placed on layoff status OR termination (respectively).
