Navopache Electric Cooperative is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Journeyman Substation Technician in Lakeside, Arizona. NEC is situated within the White Mountains of Arizona, 180 miles NE of Phoenix. It is a place of beautiful scenery and mild climate, with a small community atmosphere where you know your neighbors. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform construction, operation and maintenance of substations and substation equipment as well as the maintenance and repair of line equipment, devices and apparatus, including relay and associated equipment.
DUTIES PERFORMED REGULARLY:
Keep supervisor informed of the condition of all electrical apparatus assigned to him/her, noting any malfunctions or suspected malfunctions of apparatus.
Responsible for the proper use, care, handling, and accounting of all materials, tools, equipment and vehicles assigned to him/her, and for the accuracy of all reports that relate to the use of such materials.
Specify parts and equipment for purchasing as necessary.
Must maintain an accurate inventory of all materials on hand and perform salvage operations.
Responsible for keeping currently informed with respect to any and all policies, procedures, wiring specifications, technical data or other needed data that relate to his/her assigned duties.
Operate equipment, climb and work on substation structures. Work on energized equipment at any voltage in conformance with his/her training and safe work practices.
Maintain, repair and inspect power substation and line-mounted regulators, and relay equipment.
Keep up-to-date prints and diagrams of all equipment.
Shop test, maintain, and repair step regulators, oil circuit reclosers, oil switches, single phase and three phase distribution transformers, regulator panels, under controlled conditions.
Keep maintenance and data logs of all electrical apparatus assigned.
Maintain inventory control records as required.
Assist in the operation, troubleshooting, or replacement of power substation and line-mounted regulator control panels in the field.
Paint apparatus, filter and process oil.
Responsible for the direction and supervision of assistants or personnel that may be assigned to him/her.
Subject to call out duty for emergency calls after regular working hours.
Perform housekeeping duties in the warehouse and will be responsible for the orderly maintenance of materials and equipment in storage areas.
May act as Substation Foreman from time to time, in absence of the Foreman, after one year of continuous service as a Journeyman Substation Technician.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Formal Education
High school education or equivalent
Certified as a Journeyman Substation Technician.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Be able to understand both oral and written instructions, AC wiring diagrams, AC schematic diagrams, blueprints and standard instruction and maintenance bulletins for the equipment related to his/her duties.
Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all applicable safety rules, regulations, and practices.
Be willing to study and broaden his/her knowledge and keep abreast of new techniques and developments in his/her related field.
Have the ability to work without direct supervision, as circumstances require.
Have or be able to obtain a valid Class “A” Arizona Commercial Drivers License within 90 days of employment.
Live and reside full-time or be willing to move to within a 30 mile radius of reporting office.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Navopache operates on four 10- hour days (4/10s), Monday through Thursday 7:00AM to 6:00 PM.
RATE OF PAY:
The starting rate of pay is $48.55 per hour. This is an hourly non-exempt position.
