Central Electric Power Cooperative is currently seeking applications for the Switchman position. The successful candidate must live in the Moberly, Centralia, Hallsville, Harrisburg area. Individuals interested in this position should have a minimum of an Associates Degree in Industrial Electricity, Electrical Distribution Systems or Industrial Technology. Experience in power systems or electrical utility operations is a plus. Qualified candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a class A commercial driver’s license. Job duties will include the regular maintenance and testing of electrical equipment inside substations and also helping both the Line and Substation crews as necessary. Individuals must be able to communicate clearly, work at heights, walk on uneven ground, climb ladders, be capable of occasionally lifting up to 100lbs and work in inclement weather conditions. In particular, the switchman position is subject to callouts 24/7 for outages and emergencies and can expect to work alone most of the time. Job training for this position will include a four-year apprenticeship program to include on-the-job training tasks.
