Position Summary: As a Field Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of Bartholomew County REMC's overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Using your technical expertise, you'll ensure our systems meet current demands and are ready for future growth. Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Engage with cooperative members to understand their service needs and evaluate electrical distribution requirements.
Design and plan new line extensions, subdivisions, system upgrades, and maintenance projects.
Provide accurate construction cost estimates and deliver project details promptly to members.
Manage and maintain GIS mapping systems using ESRI and NISC staking tools to ensure data accuracy.
Collaborate with the engineering and operations teams on project development, work order creation, and construction oversight.
Conduct field inspections to assess the condition of poles, rights-of-way, and related infrastructure, utilizing GPS and other advanced technologies.
Work closely with local government agencies and external consultants to ensure minimal disruption to members during construction.
Lead or assist crews in resolving outages and emergency situations.
After first 6 months in role, serve in an on-call support watch role.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education and/ or degree preferred.
1-3 years of experience in electrical distribution, field engineering, or a related area preferred.
Proficiency with GPS, GIS mapping, field staking software, and familiarity with NEC/NESC electrical codes preferred.
Knowledgeable of NEC, NESC, and local electrical codes preferred.
Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn other software programs, as needed.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both team members and cooperative members.
A proactive, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and organizational skills.
A positive attitude and pleasant demeanor to both members and coworkers.
Physical ability to conduct fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in outdoor conditions.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
A proficiency in the English language and its proper usage. Knowledge of a second language is a plus for this position.

Physical Demands:
This position requires that the individual spend most of the day out of the office meeting with members, visiting job sites and travelling in a vehicle. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
Frequently – see, talk, hear, walk, sit, stand, use hands to finger, handle, type, feel and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally – stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: This role is predominantly field-based, offering variety and hands-on work in diverse conditions, from construction sites to cooperative member properties. You’ll be working outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring the reliability and safety of our electrical distribution systems.
