Working independently and collaboratively with others, this position plays an integral role in executing LEC’s mission, philosophy, and commitment to providing safe, reliable electricity to our community and exceptional service to our internal and external customers. This position shares responsibility with other members of the engineering department for establishing and encouraging a dynamic, high functioning, engaged work environment that fosters a safe and healthy work culture.
The System Engineer will work under the direction of the E&O Manager and is responsible for all engineering design aspects of the Co-op’s electrical system. This individual analyzes the electrical system for safe efficient operation and monitors system reliability.
II. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Perform power system studies and provide recommendations for improvements.
Design, implement, and improve electrical facilities and processes.
Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Direct and coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Perform detailed calculations to establish construction and installation standards and specifications.
Plan and implement methodologies and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment and/or the solicitations of labor.
Train project team members as necessary.
Oversee project construction efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.
Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, and topographical maps to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
Investigate customer complaints, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend remedial measures.
Assist in developing long range capital project plans.
Develop budgets, estimate labor, material, and construction costs.
Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
Conduct field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify and correct power system problems.
Support Operations personnel to address system outages and correct issues.
Maintain a high level of integrity and discipline with a strong work ethic.
Analyze system data metrics and identify trends and patterns to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
III. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES SKILLS, ABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have knowledge of engineering principles and concepts with the ability to interpret engineering documentation.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with different departments and team members.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and the ability to operate various engineering software applications such as distribution analysis, fuse coordination and work order tracking.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other related field.
Experience in power system design preferred.
Knowledge of electric distribution power systems.
