A Level IV bargaining unit position responsible for the installation, operation, management, maintenance and user support for the cooperative’s computer and internal networking systems.
Evaluate, recommend, install, operate and maintain all computer systems, including servers, workstations, laptop computers, tablets, smartphone devices, operating systems and office productivity software.
Evaluate, recommend, install, operate and maintain all internal networking systems and processes, including routers, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi, email and messaging, cloud computing, LDAP/Domain services, intranet and remote access (VPN).
Provide disaster recovery and business continuity plans and procedures for computer and internal network systems and processes. Develop and implement comprehensive data backup procedures for off-site storage.
Implement and maintain the cooperative’s computer system and network security standards and ensure the reliable operation of authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) security procedures. Configure and maintain system and network user accounts for system access, email and security.
Prepare and implement long and short range plans for network expansion, workstation replacement/retirement and server replacement/retirement/consolidation and plan for upgrades and implementation of new technology.
Research existing and emerging system security vulnerabilities and ways to mitigate their risk. Routinely update individual workstations and servers with virus and malware protection software. Monitor firewall/security logs to verify that security is not compromised by outside forces or remote access.
Perform basic to advanced repair of computers, servers and associated peripheral hardware. Install, replace and configure hardware as needed.
Evaluate and apply operating system and production software patches and upgrades as appropriate.
Assist the Network Engineer, Communications Technician and networking consultants in the installation, configuration, maintenance and user support of the cooperative’s IP based telephone systems.
Attend meetings, conferences, utility meetings, workshops, seminars and training sessions in addition to reviewing publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.
Prepare clear, informative and timely written reports on activities. Maintain detailed logs and documentation related to the ongoing operation and maintenance of the cooperative’s computer and internal networking systems, service requests and system changes.
Provide general assistance to the Information Services team as requested.
Keep immediate supervisor and designated staff fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
Perform additional duties as necessary and assigned to maintain the effective functioning of the department and the cooperative.
Respond to all user service requests in a timely manner.
Respond to emergency callouts as requested within scope and abilities of this position, to assist with work as necessary to restore power and fiber services.

Thorough working knowledge of modern computer systems, operating systems, software, operating environments and network infrastructures as a basis for performing the essential functions of this position. Must possess the ability to install, maintain, operate and support modern computer and networking systems.

Detailed knowledge of network design, configuration and management.
Thorough knowledge of legacy and current Microsoft client and server operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange email systems, Microsoft Office suites and cloud-based services.
Detailed understanding and working knowledge of virtualization technologies.
Knowledge of scripting languages such as BASIC and PowerShell used in the configuration of network servers and user workstations.
Thorough understanding and working knowledge of networking mediums and technologies, including fiber optics, copper cabling systems and wireless networking.
Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and coordinate user support issues and service requests for the cooperative’s computer and networking systems and processes.
Ability and analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in a timely and efficient manner.
Ability to communicate well with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
