East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC) is an electric cooperative headquartered in Nacogdoches, Texas. ETEC generates and transmits wholesale electricity ultimately to 10 distribution cooperatives that reach over 340,000 homes and businesses. ETEC serves load in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) as well as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Role and Responsibilities The purpose of this position is for the successful candidate to get involved in multiple sides of the G&T business with responsibilities and learning opportunities within areas such as, but not limited to: project management, RTU programming, relay programming/interrogation and event analysis, transmission line and substation operation and design, data entry, database organization and development, and compliance/regulatory standards and best practices. This will be a full or part time (limited to 1000 hours per year) opportunity where the selected candidate will gain intimate knowledge of distribution electrical cooperatives, G&T cooperatives, their business models, and their functionality. The selected candidate will also gain valuable “real-world” experience on the technical and non-technical side of projects along with gaining functional knowledge of a professional office setting. Candidate will also work with the Manager of Compliance and Planning, Manager of IT Systems, and various other employees in the organization to get a well-rounded internship experience. In general, the candidate will: - Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management on expense and capex projects
- Lead and develop small expense projects along with their needed documentation and implementation plans
- Compile, validate, and enter maintenance records, compliance records, and equipment records into ETEC’s Asset Integrity Database
- Learn how to program SEL RTUs (RTACs)
- Learn how to remotely access, program, interrogate, and analyze SEL relays
- Support Manager of Transmission Services with project development, RUS contracts, invoicing, and accounting along with development and documentation of meeting agendas and notes
- Support Manager of Compliance and Planning with data entry and validation of testing records
- Input data and further develop ETEC’s Asset Integrity database
- Support Manager of IT Systems and staff with SCADA and communication field deployments for ETEC and members
- Support Manager of Transmission Services to develop and alter vegetation management and substation/transmission line inspection manuals and specifications
- Coordinate projects and initiatives with ETEC Members and third parties (EPC vendors, contractors, testers, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
