POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position helps achieve the Cooperative mission of enhancing the quality of life of our members by 1. Providing highly reliable and safe electric service and 2. Constructing, maintaining and repairing overhead and underground electric distribution lines.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform work on energized and de-energized lines.
Climb wood poles and be able to perform tasks required off the poles including changing out cross arms, transformers, reclosers, capacitors, regulators, conductors, etc.
Patrols and inspects existing power lines looking for problems, trouble shoot problems and retire old power lines as required.
Frame, set poles, string wire, tie wire, connect and disconnect services and read meters.
Be able to respond to power outages and customer problems and trouble shoot to restore power in a timely manner both during regular working hours and overtime.
Direct, guides and trains personnel in apprenticeship programs including emphasis on safe working practices.
Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code, RUS line specifications, OSHA rules and regulations, MDOT rules and cooperative policies and procedures.
Ability to read and interpret documents, including prints, staking sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Works primarily outdoors with considerable physical exertion, occasionally during inclement weather conditions. Will occasionally be required to work in a dirty environment and around heavy equipment.
Physical effort and dexterity: Frequent physical activity; to include walking, stooping, bending, frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting in excess of 50 pounds, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing and working in awkward positions is normal.
Frequent work out of aerial devices and off ladders.
Overtime as required
Journeyman Lineman or Utility Lineman Certification
Valid Michigan driver’s license and Department of Transportation Commercial. Driver’s License (CDL) with group A designation and air brake endorsement.
