MEC is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Safety and Security Coordinator.
The purpose of this position is to ensure that MEC is operating in a way that meets both regulatory and compliance standards in a way that attains a goal of zero in safety and health-related incidents across the Cooperative while positively impacting working conditions and morale of our employees. This position is responsible for the overall safety and security as well as promoting and enforcing all safety practices to safeguard employees and the public.
This position requires a highly motivated leader that brings exemplary safety technical skills, strong focus on efficient delivery, innovative thinking, knowledge of regulations, the ability to manage change and strong customer service skills. This individual will serve as the Cooperative's principle safety representative, advocating the effective use of technology to address and support current and future business needs who will promote safety above all and take an active role in the enforcement of Cooperative's safety rules, policies, and procedures while encouraging all employees to perform work of the highest quality.
Qualified applicants must have an associate's degree in Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences or equivalent required. Must have or be able to obtain Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP). Experience administering and complying with the requirements of the NRECA Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP) preferred. Significant experience planning, preparing and presenting training is strongly preferred. A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines. Should have a minimum of three years of experience in a position involving planning and directing programs requiring frequent contact with the public and the ability for measuring the results of such programs. Experience in developing and implementing safety/security policies and procedures and in investigative procedures highly desirable.
Must adhere to, promote safety and lead by example. Must have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with Members, other employees, and the general public. Must always treat Members respectfully and in a professional manner in support of the Cooperative's strong commitment to outstanding customer service. Must be able to handle a wide range of projects and routine tasks simultaneously.
Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participate in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.
