Total Rewards:
A typical starting range for this position is $155,000 - $213,000 + annually. We offer market competitive base pay and adjust our offer accordingly based upon the value of the candidate’s knowledge, skills and experience. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Serve as a trusted legal advisor, providing strategic guidance to management and various departments.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, pleadings, and other key legal documents.
Represent GRE before regulatory agencies and in other forums to resolve legal matters effectively.
Manage and oversee legal matters assigned to outside counsel, ensuring timely and satisfactory outcomes.
Research and analyze legal and policy issues to support business decisions.
Support GRE’s participation in the MISO energy and transmission markets through direct legal work or by overseeing external counsel.
Stay ahead of evolving laws and regulations that impact the energy industry.
Advise on the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal policies and procedures.
Work closely with the General Counsel to develop legal department strategies that align with corporate goals.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate degree and active law license in the state of Minnesota.
5+ years’ experience preferred as a corporate or private law firm attorney, with a preference for experience in the electric utility industry or equivalent legal background.
Deep understanding of federal, state, and industry-specific laws and regulations (corporate governance, real estate, environmental, litigation, contracts, etc.).
Strong knowledge of utility industry legal aspects, including power purchase agreements, regulatory compliance, and MISO market operations.
Excellent writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to foster positive relationships with internal teams, board members, outside counsel, and regulators.
Strong problem-solving skills to navigate complex, interrelated business and legal challenges.
Proficiency in drafting and preparing complex legal documents, presentations, and reports.
A collaborative, strategic mindset with the ability to negotiate and influence effectively.

Powering what’s possible Great River Energy is a not-for-profit electricity provider owned by our 26 distribution cooperatives in Minnesota and Wisconsin for which we generate and transmit electricity. We provide wholesale electric service to our member owners who distribute electricity to approximately 660,000 member consumers - or about 1.7 million people. A diverse mix of generation resources - Our power plants generate more than 2,800 megawatts of electricity and several solar arrays capable of producing 650 kilowatts.
