Staking Technician
This entry-level position designs cost-effective electric service by working with members, maps, and construction specifications. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys, preparing staking sheets and material lists, securing right-of-way easements, estimating construction costs, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards. The Staking Technician communicates directly with members, explains service options, and coordinates with internal teams. This role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions and requires physical stamina, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn utility design and staking procedures.

Requirements:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Associate degree or equivalent work experience preferred

Experience:

• Prior fieldwork or utility experience preferred

• Willingness to obtain certification as a Staking Technician

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to use algebra and geometry in fieldwork

• Familiarity with or ability to learn construction drawings, staking sheets, and survey equipment

• Basic understanding of electricity and electrical equipment

• Computer proficiency for staking software and documentation

• Ability to read and interpret maps, manuals, and technical drawings

Physical & Other Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Must be able to walk through rough terrain, underbrush, creeks, and fences

• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record

• Willingness to work in low light or emergency situations and be available after hours if needed

• Certification in CPR, First Aid, and bucket rescue (or ability to obtain)
