The Mechanic/Utility position provides reliable and continuous service by directing and/or providing timely maintenance and repair to Cornhusker Public Power District vehicles and equipment. As a mechanic/utility, we expect the individual to take ownership of work and do more than just what is asked of them. In addition to completing the work, they are expected to manage and plan the work that needs to be done in their area as well as look for improvements that can be made to help things operate more efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. The mechanic/utility position shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objective of the Cornhusker Public Power District. 1. Ensure Cornhusker Public Power vehicles, trailers and equipment are in good working order and operate in accordance with industry standards. 2. Carry out all the necessary activities for the repair and maintenance of Cornhusker Public Power District vehicles and associated equipment, including the diagnosing, adjusting, repairing and overhauling of diesel engines, vehicle hydraulic systems, and dielectric equipment. 3. Complete welding repairs and limited vehicle body work. 4. Perform limited fabrication and repair. 5. Maintain records of maintenance history and work completed on Cornhusker Public Power District vehicles and shall be responsible for ensuring vehicles receive scheduled maintenance. 6. Maintains an adequate inventory of parts to ensure equipment can usually be repaired and back in service in a timely fashion. 7. Coordinates vehicle and equipment repairs with local dealerships and vendors. 8. Assists with the development and review of specifications for new vehicle and equipment purchases. 9. Performs safety inspections of Cornhusker Public Power District transportation equipment in compliance with federal DOT, state and local regulations. 10. Assists with the installation, repair, and maintenance of Cornhusker Public Power District property and facilities as needed. 11. Must be willing to obtain a Water Operators license. 12. Follows all safety policies, rules and procedures. 13. Inspects work after completion. 14. Keeps assigned work area, vehicles, tools and equipment are neat and orderly. 15. Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations while operating assigned vehicle. Should at all times look out for the safety of the vehicle, its occupants and its load. 16. Responsible for providing a safe work environment for themselves and all employees working near them. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, it is required an individual have knowledge of the operation, repair, maintenance and trouble- shooting techniques for diesel engines, hydraulic systems, vehicles and other equipment, and tools used in the electric utility industry. They must be able to perform activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description. They must be able to complete a wide variety of reports and maintain accurate records. The position regularly lifts 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds on occasion. They must be able to organize work so as to minimize downtime. They must be able to maintain records required for accounting of time and materials. Must be proficient in first aid methods and artificial respiration. Post-offer drug test required. Post-offer physical/functional test required. • Valid Nebraska class A CDL • Must be willing to obtain a Water Operators license.
