LINE SUPERVISOR
POSITION SUMMARY
The Line Supervisor will serve the members and support the goals of Jefferson Energy Cooperative by effectively and efficiently planning schedules and supervisingassigned crew to provide optimal electric service to members/consumers by performing diversified work in the line construction and repair involved in the distribution of electricity. Develops and promotes adherence to established safety rules, regulations and practices.

Supervises: Line Technicians
III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
Assists in the construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical distribution system and adheres to approved specifications, practices, procedures, and policies in order to insure a reliable efficient supply of energy.
Accounts for all materials received from the warehouse inventory and installed in the field or salvaged in the field and returned to the
Completes work orders and associated records to establish service to members/consumers, including accurate documentation of employee time for accounting and payroll.
Schedules daily work for crew and ensures efficient use of time and resources by beginning the work shift promptly.
Assures that crews leave job locations in a neat, safe condition with minimum disturbance.
Maintains assigned tools, equipment and vehicles; advises Construction Superintendent of need for repairs or new equipment.
Performs periodic appraisals of assigned personnel for review by Construction Superintendent and Manager of Operational Services; documents employee performance as needed and assists employees in the implementation of any needed procedural or behavioral changes.
Assists with trouble calls, as required.
Inspects completed work to determine if construction specifications have been met. Makes field changes as necessary or as instructed and makes corrections or changes to construction staking sheets.
Directs work efforts of others with limited supervision; makes decisions in the field within the scope of responsibility.
Works cooperatively with other Jefferson Energy employees to promote the "team" concept at all times.
Makes himself/herself available for any work that may be required at times other than normal working hours and will be expected to take part in the cooperative's “on-call" system.
Provides leadership and direction that encourages the members of the crews (including contractors) to work effectively and efficiently resulting in high levels of safety, morale, and productivity.
Interprets maps, staking sheets, specs, blueprints and diagrams.
Maintains thorough knowledge of Jefferson Energy’s distribution line system, underground and overhead.
Interacts with members/consumers in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
Attends job training and safety meetings.
Supervisory Responsibilities/ Essential Functions
Leads by example maintaining a positive attitude, professionalism and a supportive environment. Practice consistence, fairness, and honesty in supervising employees;
Orients his/her employees to their position and the cooperative;
Processes employee e-time. Coordinates and properly documents PTO;
Communicates duties and responsibilities, delegates tasks and informs subordinates of the expectations of performance;
Develops an understanding of each job in order to direct the employees supervised. Motivates them to perform their duties to meet the Cooperative’s expectation of performance;
Continually assesses performance by giving and receiving feedback in a timely manner. Conducts Coaching Reviews and Annual Performance Reviews;
Evaluates training needs of employees and provides opportunities for continuing education;
Assists Manager in hiring employees with guidance from Human Resources;
Actively supports the efforts and intent of Equal Employment Opportunity.

The LINE SUPERVISOR shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objective of the cooperative.

County Utility Inspector: To coordinate JEC construction on state and county right-of-ways.
Other utility companies: To coordinate efforts.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
LINE SUPERVISOR
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Prior experience as a Line Supervisor, or one year experience as a Crew Leader, or equivalent, with satisfactory performance;
Competent in both overhead and underground construction and maintenance;
Completion of an Accredited Apprenticeship Program or equivalent;
Preferred:
Class A Commercial Driver’s License;
First Aid/CPR Certification;
Flagging Certification; and
ITS Switching Certification.
Abilities and Skills:
Required:
Supervisory skills;
Competent computer skills;
Written communication skills in order to prepare accurate and detailed documentation;
Oral communication skills to effectively instruct crew members and interact with members/consumers;
Ability to respond to deadlines under pressure; and
Ability to competently operate line construction equipment and other specialized equipment.
Physical Effort and Working Conditions:
Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds. Occasionally operates heavy equipment. Must be able to stand, walk and stoop. Due to equipment weight limits, the technician must weigh 315 lbs. or less.
This position requires approximately 5% indoor work in a normal office environment and 95% outdoor work in all weather conditions. Overtime may be required during power outages, storms or inclement weather. Overnight travel may be required for training purposes. Extended travel may be required for storm related activities/restoration.
