POSITION DESCRIPTION LINE TECHNICIAN OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Keeps equipment and job site clean and orderly
Digs trenches, fills and tamps holes, drives ground rods, cuts and trims trees or undergrowth along right-of-way.
Helps maintain proper traffic control in and around the work area to protect workers and public from injury.
Frames poles on ground, as well as makes up armor rods, tie wires, and hand- lines on ground.
Cares for rubber protective equipment, fiberglass sticks, and other safety related equipment.
Moves heavy equipment and materials.
Climbs de-energized poles unless qualified to perform energized work.
Installs guy wires, positions cables for construction, and operates chainsaw as necessary.
Perform the following line functions, overhead and unground, in compliance with design sheets, RUS standards, National Electrical Safety Code, federal, state, OSHA, D.O.T. regulations, and good construction practice while under direct supervision:
Acquire and use of hand tools (pliers, wrench, screwdriver, hammer, etc.)
Knowledge of basic materials.
Dig holes, set and tamp poles.
Send materials up poles.
Cut right-of-way when necessary.
Care of tools and work equipment.
Climb energized poles and work within allowable contact distances as prescribed in the Electric Cooperatives Safety Manual.
Tie knots in rope as related to line work.
Assist in loading and hauling poles.
Handle and care for cables.
Assist other crew members as requested or directed.
Assist in substation switching.
Perform Stand-By “On-Call / Emergency” duties.
Complete Northwest Linemen School modules, on-the-job training manuals, and ECSC Apprentice Schools in a timely and proficient manner depending on level on experience.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma
Technical School: Apprentice Line Worker Certification
