South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Field Engineer. This position will report out of our Barnesville, OH location.
This position is responsible for investigating, surveying, and staking electric distribution lines in accordance with construction specifications. Additionally, the incumbent will prepare staking sheets, submit proposals for joint use and represent the cooperative to members and others while in the field.
Responsibilities include coordinating joint use construction projects with other utilities, surveying and acquiring right-of-ways and easements, designing overhead and underground distribution lines for commercial services, residential subdivisions, feeders from substations, and bridge or roadway projects. Candidates must possess strong communication skills and build working relationships with Ohio Department of Transportation, county engineers, electricians, and other utilities.
What the job requires…
Must have a high school diploma. An Associate’s degree in an engineering field or equivalent is preferred. General training in surveying procedures desired.
Five years’ practical experience in engineering or operations for a utility or in the area of surveying is desired.
Knowledge of RUS engineering standards for electrical distribution.
Must be familiar with computer usage regarding engineering functions. Ability to make calculations on forces and understand sag/ground clearance requirements, determine service load levels, and prepare cost estimates.
Must be able to withstand adverse weather and environmental conditions.
Valid driver’s license.
