The Board of Directors of Chimney Rock Public Power District is seeking a collaborative, analytical individual with broad industry knowledge to lead the PPD in the future as their next GM/CEO. Chimney Rock PPD has retained NRECA Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
About Chimney Rock PPD
The Chimney Rock Public Power District service territory covers approximately 1,200 square miles in the central panhandle of Nebraska. The CRPPD service territory encompasses portions of Morrill, Scottsbluff, Banner, Box Butte, and Sioux Counties. The CRPPD territory is divided by the North Platte River with roughly three-fourths of the service area north of the river. There are two significant reservoirs, Lake Alice, and Lake Minatare in the northwestern portion of the CRPPD service territory. The Chimney Rock National Historic Site is situated in the southcentral part of the service area. Chimney Rock currently has 12 employees, and approximately 3,000 meters.
The Ideal Candidate
Successful GM/CEO candidates will have a background working in a public power district, municipal utility, or electric cooperative with a strong focus on understanding of financial issues, power supply, regional issues, and the importance of a safety culture. If you are an analytical leader with strong industry knowledge, the ability to lead change and manage risk, possess a high level of interpersonal communication skills and you understand the importance of collaborating with others, these attributes will set you apart from other candidates.
Chimney Rock PPD GM/CEO Qualifications and Competencies
In depth knowledge of financial issues related to public power districts
Advanced knowledge of short and long-term budget preparation
Deep understanding of rate development and communicating rate details to the Board
In depth knowledge of power supply issues
Industry knowledge and leadership, with a broad understanding of state and national issues
Ability to develop strategies related to changing consumer needs
Strong communication skills with the board, employees, and consumers
Demonstrated integrity and courage to do the right thing for the public power district
Ability to understand and resolve consumer concerns
Demonstrated leadership and management skills
Understanding of how to influence and motivate others
An appreciation for small town rural environments
Experience and Expertise
A bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or related degree plus at least 10 years of experience in the electric utility industry is strongly preferred. A minimum of 1 – 5 years of leadership experience including some GM/CEO experience is preferred. Graduation from NRECA’s Management Internship Program (MIP) is also preferred.
Our Location
Chimney Rock Public Power District is in Bayard, Nebraska. Bayard is in the heart of the area once called “The Great American Desert”. Bayard’s most famous attraction is Chimney Rock, which is located 3 1/2 miles south of the town. Chimney Rock is one of the famous landmarks of the Oregon Trail. In 1956, Chimney Rock was designated a national historic site by the federal Government. Today, Bayard is oriented to the agricultural pursuits, livestock, and crops. Bayard is in west central Morrill County, located on Highway 26, 25 miles east of Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
