Effective leader to serve as our Vice President Human Resources in the Glen Allen, VA home office. This leader directs the overall Human Resources function including, but not limited to, Benefit Administration and Analysis, Compensation Program, Organizational Structure and Development, Succession Planning, Performance Management, Training and Professional Development, Employee Relations and Culture Building, Employee Recruitment and Retention, Diversity and Affirmative Action. This position serves as a strategic business partner responsible for the overall planning, organization, implementation, and control of the HR function for ODEC to promote effective and efficient use of personnel and compliance with applicable Federal and State laws, policies and procedures. The VP ensures that this department serves as a resource for the Senior Management Team as well as all employees and understands business strategies and issues and can translate those into human resources practices and processes that create an effective organization.
Essential responsibilities include:
Ensure company compliance with all federal, state and local law in regard to human resources issues. Remain current with changes in human resources and employment law and manages Company relationships with state and local regulatory agencies.
Serve as internal consultant to departments in employee situations where employee relation issues arise.
Provide leadership and consulting support as a member of the management team on matters of goal setting, policy development and strategic implementation in support of achieving corporate and business growth.
Develop the processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of HR department, in addition to, overseeing the administration/ analysis of Benefit Programs, Compensation Program, Organizational Structure and Development, Succession Planning, Performance Management, Training and Professional Development, Employee Relations and Culture Building, Employee Recruitment and Retention, Diversity and Affirmative Action, etc.
Work Experience:
Minimum 15 years of progressively increasing human resources management experience including significant senior level leadership.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective people leadership skills
Effective written and oral communications skills to all levels of the organization and external groups such as member cooperatives and Board members
Strong understanding of regulatory rules and regulations that impact the Human Resources area
Ability to interact effectively and coordinate closely with multiple ODEC business units
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
In-depth understanding of the electric utility industry a plus
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR or related field
Travel details: Occasional day and overnight travel via automobile or commercial airline
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor the majority of the day to include working on a laptop and smartphone
Interact effectively with others through verbal communication in person, over the phone and via video chat as well as in writing via email, Teams chat and text
Work full days (8 hours) in an office environment with occasional evening and weekend work
Conduct occasional travel via automobile to member cooperative sites which may entail some overnight travel and commercial airline for occasional conferences/meetings.
