Responsible for leading and directing all aspects of the General Accounting team. Performs a variety of technical and accounting duties related to financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and data analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervises accounting staff to ensure accomplishment of department objectives by selecting, onboarding, assigning, managing, and mentoring employees.
2. Maintains general ledger by preparing journal entries, reviewing accounts for discrepancies and balancing subsidiary ledger records to the general ledger.
3. Ensures cash and investment accounts are reconciled monthly.
4. Prepares monthly financial statements and management reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information.
5. Supports budgeting and forecasting processes.
6. Prepares sales tax returns, franchise tax reports, Gross Receipts Assessment Report, Form 2290 Heavy Highway Vehicle Tax return, and other reports as needed.
7. Oversees Accounts Payable and Payroll functions and is responsible for ensuring all essential duties and responsibilities are carried out.
8. Approves cash disbursements by verifying check amounts against invoices, and authorizing checks and electronic transfers.
9. Supports cash management by scheduling vendor payments and requesting transfers.
10. Coordinates with external auditors and provides required statements and information for the annual audit.
11. Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
12. Assists with establishing accounting policies and procedures to align with cooperative goals.
13. Maintains records in accordance with established retention guidelines.
14. Responsible for adherence to safety practices, rules, and standards.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by the CFO.
Working Environment:
This position requires working the majority of the time inside an office building under normal office conditions. This position may require the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. This position requires repetitive motions and manual dexterity for duties such as data entry.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field is required.
Experience:
Five years of prior general accounting experience and two years of prior supervisory experience are required. Electric utility accounting experience preferred.
Job Knowledge:
A comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
Abilities and Skills:
1. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with a clear driving record.
2. Must be able to create Excel worksheets, charts, and graphs in order to analyze and present information. Must be able to use Word to prepare professional communications.
3. Must be able to analyze data and reports, conduct research, and resolve problems.
4. Must be able to handle a variety of diverse tasks and to organize work details to meet varying deadlines with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
5. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
6. Must be able to operate commonly used office equipment.
Central Texas Electric Co-op (CTEC) received its charter from the State of Texas on June 19, 1947. CTEC is a non-profit organization that is owned and controlled by the people it serves.
CTEC provides electric service in 11 counties: Gillespie, Llano, Mason, Kimble, San Saba, Blanco, Kendall, Kerr, Real, Menard, and McCulloch. CTEC buys its wholesale power and distributes it throughout the service territory on its own network of lines. Currently, the cooperative has over 47,500 meters on over 7,000 miles of energized line.
