Aerial and underground installation and repair of communications drops and demarcation apparatuses.
Installation, diagnostics, and repair of routers, switches, multiplexors, camera, alarm, and fire-suppression systems and other customer premise equipment.
Deployment, installation, and repair of wireless network customer premise equipment.
Diagnostics and repairs of damaged fiber, copper, and wireless facilities.
Accurately operates and diagnoses network issues using test equipment.
Proficiently operates Arc Fusion splicing machines including cleavers and associated hand tools.
Routinely splices fiber optic drops using appropriate tools.
Routinely climbs poles and ladders to install, align, and repair facilities.
Often crawls under homes, business, and within other confined spaces to install and repair equipment.
Works with and assists other departments and third parties.
Occasionally installs cables and wires through underground conduits and vaults.
Assists the department in planning activities that affect fieldwork or operations of other departments and entities.
Participates in the development of procedures for new program implementation.
Investigates complaints and resolves problems or refers to appropriate DPI personnel.
Identifies, reports, and makes needed repairs on the system.
Informs supervisor of consumer requests.
Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations while operating assigned vehicle. Should at all times look out for the safety of the vehicle, its occupants and its load.
Sees that assigned truck, tools, and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working order.
Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including computers. Must be able to deal with a variety of people under varying circumstances while maintaining a courteous dialog. Must be able to organize work, set priorities and complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Legible handwriting is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to work aloft from a pole using ladders or pole gaffs. Ability to work in confined spaces is required. Must be able to recognize and differentiate between communications cables and energized conductors as well as maintain appropriate minimum approach distances.
The employee may lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Activities are typically performed while driving, standing, and walking.
