Job Summary
Facilitate the design of overhead and underground power lines and associated equipment in compliance with RUS construction specifications and requirements of the National Electric Safety Code, with an overall goal of obtaining an efficient and effective electrical and mechanical system. The individual filling this position must also realize how his/her work affects the overall work order process, inventory and warehouse procedures, the outage management and mapping systems, as well as the overall economics of the Cooperative.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop and layout electric distribution and service facilities in accordance with members desires, while satisfying RUS specifications, National Electric Safety Code clearances and requirements and any additional requirements imposed by CNMEC rules or practices.
Collect GPS data, prepare staking sheets and customer connect information in accordance with the Cooperative's accepted practices and procedures.
Negotiate for and prepare easement agreements for new construction and system improvements.
Work with the system engineer to prepare work plan documents and recommend needed system improvements for the work plan.
Advise customer(s) and the general public regarding the type of electric service that is being requested and any potential engineering issues or requirements.
Safely operate and maintain, in good working condition, any transportation equipment, tools, or other working equipment. Promptly report any deficiencies or needed repairs.
Prepare any required work order documents and follow them through to successful closeout. Assist with work order inspections and closings as needed or directed.
Prepare staking sheets, construction cost estimates, review plats and joint use requests as required.
Submit full and concise written reports of field activities as required, realizing that these documents, including staking sheets, easement forms, etc. could be used in litigation.
Instruct others in the beginning stages of development and work with the Member Services Technician, Engineering Service Coordinator, Mapping Technicians, and others to keep jobs moving along in a timely manner.
Agree to and abide by the Cooperative's safety rules, safety policies and safety procedures.
Perform cable pulling activities as needed.
Be knowledgeable of environmental, biological, archaeological and state historical society requirements and assist in the preparation of permit applications. Be knowledgeable of NMDOT, BLM, Forest Service, State Land Office, city, county and state permit requirements and procedures, including preparation of required applications and proper closeout of these applications.
Performs other miscellaneous job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required plus experience as a journeyman lineman. Four (4) years of journeyman lineman experience is preferred. A valid New Mexico driver’s license is required for this position; must have and maintain an insurable driving record. Requires demonstrated abilities and skills operating a personal computer using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite applications to include Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have a good working knowledge of RUS line construction specifications, line maintenance, substation construction and maintenance and other areas of electrical distribution and transmission design.
Must be winsome, personable and able to discuss issues with landowner(s) and customers to obtain win-win solutions for construction activities and easements.
Must possess a good working knowledge of Cooperative policies of material, safety, construction and maintenance.
Ability to initiate and complete projects without supervision.
Ability to isolate problems and use resolution skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to set and follow priorities.
Ability to communicate with consumers and other employees with respect and tact, and deal with diverse groups of people.
Ability to project a favorable image for the Cooperative.
