SENIOR PLANNING ENGINEER
FULLTIME/PARTTIME: Fulltime
TYPICAL HOURS WORKED: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday – Friday*; Additional hours will be required in response to system interruption. Occasional travel may be required for meetings. Hybrid work environment available.
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Professional Engineering (PE) License Required
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
May perform any combination of the following: (duties may include, but are not limited to)
Performing sectionalizing studies and determining settings and placement for protective equipment.
Analyzing the distribution system for the proper placement of power factor and voltage correction equipment, and for minimizing electrical losses.
Developing and maintaining a database of distribution relay and control settings
Performing follow-up investigation of outages, to identify root outage causes and to identify opportunities to prevent, or decrease the severity of, additional outages.
Providing on-going reports of projects, priorities, and budget status.
Reviewing outage data for trends and problems, taking corrective action as required.
Programming and operating the cooperative’s SCADA, outage management, and AMI systems.
Managing the data communication interfaces between various computer systems including CIS, SCADA, OMS, GIS, AMI, etc.
Assisting Operations Center with dispatching, technical issues, and emergency operations.
Performing all other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Operations.
WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is a mixture of indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Employee will be provided with a company vehicle for use in the performance of their job responsibilities,
Will be responsible for their own transportation to and from work.
Employee must report to work regardless of weather.
Work frequently involves sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
Must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
EMPLOYEE’S PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
It is the employee’s primary responsibility, regardless of workload or conditions, to ensure:
Safety for oneself;
Safety for all his/her fellow employees;
Protection for the public;
Protection for company property and for public and private property;
That all injuries and accidents are reported to his/her supervisor immediately.
REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
7+ years’ experience.
Professional Engineer License required.
Should have a thorough understanding of electric power distribution design, construction, operations, and SCADA systems.
Must be self-motivated and able to work well with minimum supervision.
Must be able to complete assignments with a high degree of accuracy and with attention to detail.
Requires operation of company owned vehicles.
Should have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must be able to work a minimum of eight hours a day, five days per week,
Must also be able to work outside of these regular hours when required or needed to perform duties.
Must be able to work outdoors, during all weather conditions, in a safe and productive manner.
Requires occasional day and overnight travel.
Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and in person.
Should have an advanced level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software products, Engineering Analysis Software, SCADA, and Geographic Information Systems.
