Reporting to the Energy Solutions Manager, the Interconnection Specialist is responsible for overseeing and processing all interconnection applications (e.g., solar, wind, hydro and battery) and acts as the primary point of contact for applicants throughout the interconnection life cycle.
The Interconnection Specialist has primary responsibility to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with members and developers seeking to interconnect Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to the distribution system, while delivering excellent member experience throughout the process in alignment with NHEC’s strategic goals as well as regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Develop and maintain productive relationships with members, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure excellent member experience with the interconnection process.
Act as primary liaison with applicants throughout the interconnection life cycle to address their needs and expectations. This includes assisting applicants with guidance and resolving a variety of issues such as applicable regulatory and NHEC requirements as well as addressing incomplete or inaccurate applications.
Process member and developer applications for interconnection of DERs using NISC’s Connect and iVue applications. This includes initial review of applications for completeness and technical accuracy as well as processing associated payments from customers.
Manage the timely, efficient processing and transfer of required interconnection documentation (e.g., applications, engineering line drawings, study agreements, contracts, certificates of completion, permission to operate) with members and developers.
Work with Finance to secure deposits for solar studies and associated construction cost; also engage in the annual reconciliation process.
Work with Engineering to assess requirements for solar farms and larger systems that require study, coordinating study proposals, invoicing, communication with developers and reviewing studies prior to release.
Build and leverage effective working relationships with internal process stakeholders, and facilitate timely, efficient workflow between Engineering, Operations, Construction Services, Line Design, Consumer Accounting, Member Solutions, Energy Solutions, and Power Resources.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of information, including communication with applicants, entering relevant information into CIS, and maintaining current application status.
Provide members with information about Renewable Energy Certificates and work with Power Resources to complete or oversee completion of Customer Sited Source REC applications with the NH Department of Energy.
Verify and report gross output from member?sited sources by acting as NHEC Independent Monitor registered with the NH Department of Energy.
Hold the Co?op’s corporate electrical license and ensure regulatory compliance by maintaining NHEC’s electrical license.
Provide direction to business partners and/or technical project expertise to members.
Ensure that all projects and programs are delivered in compliance with NHEC procedures or regulatory guidelines; review project documentation and program applications to confirm all required and supporting materials are provided to fulfill program participation parameters.
As needed, develop and deliver presentations to member groups, trade, and professional organizations.
As needed, conduct inspections on manually?operated generators.
Current New Hampshire Journeyman Electrician license required; High school diploma or GED.
5 years of experience as an Electrician.
Strong knowledge of utility distribution grid interconnections, net metering, and renewable energy systems (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal).
Experience in customer service, technical marketing, sales, project management, or energy efficiency programs.
Understanding of regulatory issues affecting DER interconnection and metering.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and strong communication skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master Electrician license preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience in utility operations, DER integration, or interconnection processes.
Familiarity with enterprise systems like GIS, CIS, and interconnection platforms (e.g., PowerClerk, Salesforce).
Experience working in teams and demonstrating collaboration.
