Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative is looking for an Electrical Engineer to serve as a Distribution System Engineer. This role will work under the direction of the General Manager/CEO and in coordination with the Operations Manager to support the organization's distribution system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates activities of consulting engineers. Prepares technical studies, prepares design alternatives for major construction projects. Implements and maintains a computerized model of the utility system for short circuit, coordination, and load flow studies. Directs the maintenance of all engineering records. Prepares bid specifications for major equipment purchases and develops recommendations for the purchase and application of specialized equipment. Provides technical engineering assistance to members, the engineering staff, and other Cooperative personnel. Participates in developing budgets, work plans, policies, and operating procedures. Maintains special equipment and software applications.
Qualifications Required
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering degree from a curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Licenses
Must hold valid Ohio driver's license.
Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering and be familiar with engineering fundamentals.
Possess or can obtain a Professional Engineering License in Ohio required.
Experience:
Two to four years of previous experience utilizing practical application of skills with an electric distribution utility or related organization is preferred.
Previous experience in the area of computer applications and CAD mapping is helpful.
Requires Prefer course work or hands on experience with electric distribution power delivery.
Must have an effective working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC).
Must be able to become familiar with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) List of Materials, and RUS construction specifications.
Abilities & Skills Required
Ability to read and understand blueprints, staking sheets, and specification books for maintenance and construction necessary.
Ability to use Microsoft Office
Proficient in AutoCAD software is desirable.
Must be able to clearly and positively communicate with the public and coworkers verbally and in writing.
Ability to analyze and solve technical problems is required.
Must have demonstrated ability to work with and supervise others.
Should have the ability to train others.
Must be of the highest integrity, dependable, and possess good personal habits.
Must have sufficient physical health to perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the job.
Must have acute consciousness of safety and positive attitude towards accident prevention.
Must be willing to complete additional training and continued education as required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Work in both office environment and outside under various weather conditions. Must be able to respond and work irregular hours for emergencies. Occasional travel with overnight stays may be required.
