BARC Electric, a member-owned electric cooperative with headquarters in Millboro, Virginia, seeks a qualified applicant to fill the position of IT Specialist. Responsible for a diversity of work to support the Cooperative’s business objectives, including the operation and maintenance of electrical, solar and communication equipment, development and management of computer/server software and programs, database management, networking, and other information technology needs.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Filling an administrator role for all core services, such as O365, NISC ASP, Sentinel One, DarkTrace, FortiGate, Cisco, Security Cameras, and Access Control systems.
Configuring and maintaining a distributed network that uses multiple communications mediums and spans two offices, a data center, and multiple substations.
Operating and maintaining SCADA systems (Survalent), and associated equipment and software.
Provide oversight of third-party consultants contracted to perform IT related services for BARC. Ensure tasks assigned to third-party consultants are completed in a timely manner.
Operating and maintaining metering systems, and associated equipment and software.
Training staff in the fundamentals of cyber security and safe use of company owned and personal devices.
Operating and maintaining any other associated electrical and communication equipment and software.
Installing and maintaining computers, servers, similar equipment, other information technology-related tasks and IT equipment at BARC offices.
Maintaining an inventory of all BARC assets, to include PC’s, laptops, cell phones, tablets, etc.
Managing and maintaining databases.
Promoting a safe working environment, observing all safety rules, and supporting BARC in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
Supporting and keeping abreast of bylaws, guidelines, policies/procedures, and philosophies to effectively serve and support.
Performing other duties as assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of this position.

Environmental/Working Conditions:
This position involves working both inside and outside and requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 130 pounds or more and routine lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires walking, standing, pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling and exposure to dirt, water and all-weather conditions. This position requires the ability to perform work off ladders, aerial platforms and other means necessary to heights up to 50 feet.
Must be able and available, during any and all-weather conditions, to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and other times outside normal working hours to assist in service restoration and/or other emergencies that may arise.
Education/Training/Experience:
Two-year degree in a networking, computer, or communication technology field, or three or more years work-related experience as a substitute. Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.
Participation in BARC job safety training meetings, relevant workshops, seminars, and other courses to stay current with changing technologies.
Certifications:
None required.

Travel Requirements:
Primary travel is inside BARC service territory to customer sites, equipment locations and network core.
