Compiles and analyzes financial information; prepares journal entries and ensures the accurate and consistent recording and reporting of financial and accounting data; ensures the proper and timely preparation and execution of financial statements and reports.
Working with Controller, is responsible for the ERP system month end closing process by required due date.
Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
Maintains and balances accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules.
Assist in the preparation of accounting reports required by management or tribal and government agencies.
Assists in providing financial information requested by auditors for audit work performed by the Authority’s external financial auditor and other regulatory, tribal or government agency auditors.
Assist in implementing and maintain a computer based system (NISC iVue ABS) for accounting and budgeting activities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Uniform System of Accounts as prescribed by Rural Utility Service (RUS) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Authority policy and practices.
Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of work requirements.
Maintain financial security by adhering to established internal controls.
Supervise personnel as assigned.
Provide training as needed to the accounting team to advance the skills of the team.
Assist Accounting Supervisor and Controller with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance.
A minimum of eight plus (8+) years of accounting experience required (utility and/or telecom accounting experience preferred)
Tohono O'odham Utility Authority (TOUA), a tribal entity, is governed by a seven person Board of Directors. In 1970 the original charter authorized the utility to provide electric and water services to the reservation. Today TOUA's service delivery area includes the main reservation and the San Xavier District, located southwest of Tucson. TOUA's headquarters is located 60 miles west from Tucson in the Sonoran Desert The Tohono O'odham Nation (Nation) is 2.8 million acres large, comparable in size to the state of Connecticut. It includes the counties of Pima. Pinal and Maricopa. TOUA has approximately 116 employees. TOUA is charged by the Nation to provide services including electric, water/wastewater, telephone, cellular, propane and Internet services. The electric utility department operates and maintains over 759 miles of transmission and distribution lines, serving approximately 3,961 meters. The telephone department uses the latest in technology to provide service to 4,000 access lines over a fiber network. TOUA's water department provides vital water to approximately 3,330 customers in this desert region. The water department also ensures that their 1,897 wastewate...r customers have properly maintained wastewater systems In addition TOUA provides propane service to approximately 900 customers.
