Purpose of Position
The Temporary Pre-Apprentice Groundman classification is designed to be a feeder pool for the apprentice lineman selection process. The work is designed to assist line crew members by working on the ground, handing tools and heavy materials to workers. To dig holes and pad ditches and to perform other similar work in connection with the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines. Perform all other job duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities
1. Assists with all job-related material handling and loading.
2. Assists with all ground framing and hardware dismantling of power poles.
3. Sending material to and from the ground to personnel in elevated positions.
4. Assist with the installation of power poles and overhead equipment.
5. Assist with the installation of all underground cable and equipment.
6. Assist with moving material to and from vehicles.
7. Assist with all vehicle housekeeping.
8. Assist with all ground preparation to the installation of overhead and underground equipment.
9. May practice, under supervision, to become qualified in pole climbing
10. Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Job Requirements
1. Education/Experience:
a. High school diploma or GED.
b. One year of experience working in an outside environment doing physical labor.
c. Must have a valid driver's license with Class “A” CDL endorsement.
d. Must have or obtain a first aid card within one month.
2. Knowledge and Skills:
a. Basic knowledge of all types of physical labor.
b. Must have communication skills and the ability to work with other employees.
c. Must be able to read and write English and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
d. Must be courteous and respectful to fellow employees.
e. Must be able to lift heavy objects and do hard physical labor.
3. Preferred Job Qualifications:
a. Completion of line school preferred.
The Temporary Pre-Apprentice Groundman shall have full authority to carry out these duties and responsibilities in conformity with established policies and procedures and shall utilize time in such a way as to fulfill the objectives of this position and the cooperative.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
· Mental Demands/Working Conditions:
o Working in an environment in all types of weather.
o Working long and irregular shifts as needed.
o Must be available for unscheduled work as needed.
o Must be able to work in excess of 12 hours during extreme outage situations.

o Other specific abilities required are ability to talk using the telephone and hear within normal range.
