Position Summary: Performs automotive and equipment maintenance and repair for Cooperative owned vehicles, and aerial devices, such as digger derricks and bucket trucks.
Essential Duties:
Follows all safety rules and procedures
Performs annual DOT inspections on all commercial motor vehicles and trailers. Performs and documents semi-annual preventative maintenance inspections on all trucks, buckets, digger derricks, and trailers.
Performs regular preventative maintenance on all cooperative owned vehicles and related equipment, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Maintains an inventory of vehicle repair parts and equipment to insure prompt repair
Prepares inspection reports and daily repair reports as required.
Diagnoses and repairs mechanical issues associated with digger derricks and aerial lifts, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Performs annual inspections on Cooperative generators.
Complies with Cooperative’s policies prohibiting harassment and discrimination. Complies with Cooperative’s Drug Free Workplace policy, and complies with all policies, safety rules and procedures; and immediately reports possible violations to department VP and VP of HR and Benefits
Attends safety meetings as required. Participates in other training to stay abreast of best practices
Performs other duties as assigned
Equipment Requirements (must be able to effectively use):
Welder and acetylene torches, forklift, cooperative vehicle, auto lift,
Software Requirements (must be able to effectively use):
MicrosoftOffice programs (Word, Excel), SEDC Fleet Management System
High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years’ experience as a mechanic, or graduation from a vocational or technical school with specific training in general mechanics
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Preferred:
Crane Inspection Certification
Valid CPR/First-Aid/AED Certificate
Knowledge of electrical systems
Welding Certification
Hydraulic Mechanics Certification
Knowledge of DOT Regulations
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
Ability to read and interpret manufacturer vehicle and equipment operating and maintenance manuals. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions
Knowledgeable of the operation, repair, maintenance and trouble-shooting techniques for all types of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, vehicles, and other equipment and tools used within the utility industry
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with members or employees on the telephone or in person
Ability to perform functions used in basic and some complex math
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to maintain professionalism and effectively perform in stressful environments
Ability to effectively and professionally perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
Ability to safely and properly use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment required for maintenance and repairs
Ability to exercise independent judgement within parameters of the Cooperative’s policies/procedures
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of highly sensitive information, both internally and externally
Physical Requirements (must be able to):
Use both hands and fingers; grip; twist; reach above the head; bend, stoop and twist ; and sit and stand for long periods of time; lift, carry, push and pull weights up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions (must be able to):
Work eight hours per day, five days a week
Work overtime as needed, including weekends, nights and holidays
Works primarily outside and is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
