Job Training and Safety – Trainer

Eastern Nebraska (east of Nebraska Highway 183) or Western Nebraska (west of Nebraska Highway 183)

Objectives

• Provide first-rate on-site job training and safety instruction to NREA member-system employees to proactively prevent workplace injuries and fatalities.
• Develop, design, write, and instruct on-site job training and safety class sessions specific to NREA member-system employees.
• Create curriculum for job training and safety programming.
• Assist the Director in development of training activities.
• Collaborate with NREA member-systems to schedule, travel to, and deliver on-site training.
• Assist the Director of Job Training and Safety with events and trainings associated with the program.

Reporting Relationships

• Reports to: Director of Job Training and Safety
• Works Closely With: NREA member-system managers and staff; NREA management

Responsibilities and Authority

• Responsible for the instruction of Job Training and Safety Program curriculum.
• Adapt all program curriculum to specific member-systems.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for all training sessions.
• Maintain classroom and laboratory supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Promote the program and contribute to the development of educational initiatives to support the mission of the program.
• Assist in the planning of conferences, workshops, and special training events. On-site for training programs as requested by the Director of Job Training and Safety:
• Meter School
• Job Training and Safety Conference
• Rubber Gloving, Underground, and Apparatus Schools
• Safety Director Update
• Engineering Seminar
• Leadership Training
• Other training opportunities
• Assist in on-site observations for NRECA RESAP at NREA member-systems.
• Be proficient in safety compliance, including OSHA, Department of Labor, and state regulations.
• Attend professional development activities and keep abreast of the trends and developments in training, safety, equipment, and materials for the power industry.
• Assist in safety audits, on-site observations, and accident investigations as requested by the Director of Job Training and Safety.
• Be familiar with the NREA Safety Manual and safety inspection procedures.
• Assist the Director of Job Training and Safety in the coordination of the initial stages of the NREA Emergency and Disaster Plan when assistance is requested by NREA member-systems.

  Salary and Benefits

  Salary is based on education and experience. NREA full benefits package.

  FLSA Classification: Non-exempt. As a non-exempt employee, this position is eligible for overtime pay at the applicable rate for all hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours per workweek, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and Nebraska law.

  Physical Demands

  This is a physically demanding position. Essential functions of this role include the ability to demonstrate utility safety procedures, operate training equipment, and work in field or outdoor environments. Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, climbing and lifting are to be expected. Requires occasional lifting of heavy items up to 50 lbs.

  Location

  This position offices remotely from home within the applicable service area (east or west of Nebraska Highway 183). Residency within the assigned service area is required. Extensive statewide travel is required, as further described under Travel Requirements.

  License Requirements

  Must possess a current, valid Nebraska driver’s license or the ability to immediately obtain.

  Travel Requirements

  Extensive travel required within the State of Nebraska, up to 90 percent of time. Expect a non-traditional schedule with travel occurring during non-traditional business hours and overnights.

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 10 years electric utility work experience. Extensive background in an electrical safety and regulatory field related to high voltage electric work practices.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or an Associate degree in a relevant field. Experience in education/training. Equivalent combination of education and extensive industry experience may be accepted.
• Required Certification: Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP) or ability to obtain certification within two years.
