POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Specialist position participates in the accounting, member support, and cash management functions of the cooperative. This position is responsible for day-to-day member contact and administrative accounting duties assigned to include daily cash balancing, data entry, accounts payable data entry, work order review, member payments and front reception.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grand Valley Power reserves the right to change or modify the duties and essential functions of this position at any time.
Front office reception, call handling, daily payment processing.
Directly support and report to the Manager of Accounting and Human Resources.
Maintain records necessary for accounting and financial audits assigned ensuring that an audit trail is properly followed in all financial and accounting records.
Ensure internal controls are followed to safeguard the assets of the cooperative and affirm the integrity of accounting records.
Examine and work closely with the Manger of Accounting and Human Resources and General Accountant in preparing invoices with proper accounting distribution.
Data entry and assistance in weekly payables and receivables.
Process checks and cash received for daily deposits, ensuring that funds balance to daily receipts.
Assist Manager of Accounting and Human Resources and General Accountant with monthly closings.

Regularly communicates with consumers, vendors, contractors, and other employees in a respectful and professional manner, maintain positive relationships both internal and external.
Treats all consumers, members and personnel information as confidential.
Complies with all GVP policies and procedures.
Provide Notary Siging Agent service.
Occasional overtime.
Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must demonstrate the ability to effectively exercise leadership and functional performance. Must have and maintain proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. Must develop and maintain strong proficiency in any accounting software systems used at the cooperative. Requires strong analytical and communication skills. Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; as associates degree in accounting is desirable or 3+ years' experience in general accounting or banking. Experience should include cash handling, reconciliations, customer service, telephone etiquette, and general office procedures.
